Desire – longing for your soulmate

Desire – longing for your soulmate

In Plato’s Symposium, Aristophanes tells how the humans originally looked. They had 4 legs, 4 arms and 1 head with 2 faces. There were 3 sexes, male, female and androgynous. Each of them had a pair of genitalia, only the androgynous has a female and a male genitalia.

Zeus saw the humans as a danger to the divine power. He divided the humans into 2 parts. Until today, people long for the other half to feel unified. In the unification with the complementary other half there is an unspoken understanding and a overwhelming joy. There is a longing and desire to find our other half, our soulmate.

Linn da Quebrada and Jup do Barrio are such soulmates. I met them at the CTM festival 2019 in Berlin. I have been completely fascinated by their performances a mix of the Brazilian candomblé, a kind of voodoo religion where the African religion could survive in the new world of the slaves.

It is this longing and desire for our other missing part which maybe unifies us all.
