Creative Editing

Since 2022, the Creative Editing course has been held at irregular regular intervals, approx. 4 – 5 dates per semester, usually on Thursdays in the Rot cinema at the HFF Munich Film School.
It is a course for students from all HFF disciplines.

Creative Editing explores live video performance. We learn to mix different digital and analogue film clips, texts, feedback from cameras with each other across different computers.

As part of the seminar, individual students have already performed as VJs at parties at the Munich Film Festival or the Festival of Future Storytellers.

On 27 June 2025, the Creative Editing course took part in the Young Night at the Kunstareal Munich. An event organised by the Brandhorst Museum and the Munich Film Festival. Live animated videos were projected onto 2 large museum walls. A workshop on VJing took place in Pavillion333. Using 6 different projectors, the transparent walls of the pavilion were illuminated from the inside.

Moving collages – visual resonances of ‘Five Friends’

Video clips, images and words come together to form lively collages, tearing cracks in the surface and revealing the layers beneath. Students on the creative editing course at HFF Munich, together with their professor Beatrice Babin and the special guest VJ Ginés Olivares, are inspired by the ‘Five Friends’ exhibition.

In a unique live setting, visuals are created that are simultaneously mixed, animated and projected directly onto the walls of the museum by three to five people – a fleeting interplay of image, movement and imagination.
